National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), New Delhi and Department of Civil Engineering, Invertis University Bareilly, U.P. are jointly organizing the Seventh Webinar on Role of Youth in Disaster Management .NIDM, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is a premium institute and a Statutory Body (under Disaster Management Act 2005) for training, research, documentation, awareness and human resources and capacity development in the field of disaster mitigation and management. Disasters, either natural or man-made, have a severe impact on the individual society to the whole nation. National Youth Day is celebrated on 12th January being the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. In 1984 the Government of India declared this day as National Youth Day and since 1985 the event is celebrated in India every year, India is the second most populated country in the world with nearly a fifth of the world's population . India has more than 50% of its population below the age of 25 and more than 65% below the age of 35. Youth can play an important role in disaster preparedness and recovery Involving youth in disaster planning and recovery can increase their awareness of hazardous situations that may occur in their neighborhood and teach them how to respond in various types of emergencies.
Young people who participated in various risk management and risk reduction programs have demonstrated better knowledge and understandings on security issues and measures. They have also actively promoted a better preparedness in their surroundings, community and home environment. Studies show that young people participating in various activities before, during and after a disaster or a major incident, have a better ability to handle the situation practically and mentally.
The objective of holding this webinar is to disseminate information about Role of Youth in disaster management among the participants/delegates & also create awareness about the youth inclusive disaster risk reduction in the society, Participants will be provided with authorized e- certificates.
