news

On the occasion of National Handloom Day, the Department of Fashion Design organized a creative and eco-conscious competition titled “Scrap Muse: Crafting Utility with Creativity” on 7th August 2025. The event was designed to celebrate the rich heritage of Indian handlooms while promoting conscious fashion practices through the innovative use of fabric waste.

The programme commenced with a presentation by Ms. Pavitra Khandelwal, who introduced the audience to the significance of handlooms in India’s cultural and economic history. Her address set the tone for the competition by linking the values of heritage & sustainability.

Students enthusiastically presented their imaginative upcycled creations, each demonstrating how fabric scraps could be transformed into meaningful and artistic products. The event was graced by the presence of Prof. P. P. Singh, Dean, Faculty of Science, and Ms. Shewali Sahay, Head, Department of Fashion Design, who encouraged the students and felicitated the winners. After careful evaluation, Darshini Gupta was declared the winner, while Navjot Kaur secured the position of first runner-up. All participants received certificates of participation in recognition of their creativity and effort.
