Guest Lecture on Micro Grid by Mr. Bijay Kumar Singh | Invertis University, UP

news

Department of Electrical, Electronics & Communication Engineering conducted a webinar to benefit its students through video conferencing.

This guest lecture was addressed by Mr. Bijay Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, Government Engineering College, Rewa (MP).

In his session, he discussed about the Microgrid, one of the lucrative research topics in current scenario. He defined the microgrid as a small network of electricity users with a local source of supply that is usually attached to a centralized national grid but is able to function independently. Then he discussed the need of microgrid and differentiated it with the conventional grid. Then elaborated why microgrids are best served by local energy sources where power transmission and distribution from a major centralized energy source is too far and costly to execute. In this case the microgrid is also called an autonomous, stand-alone or isolated microgrid. In this way, microgrids improve the security of supply within the microgrid cell, and can supply emergency power, changing between island and connected modes. It also offers an option for rural electrification in remote areas and on smaller geographical islands. As a controllable entity, a microgrid can effectively integrate various sources of distributed generation (DG), especially renewable energy sources (RES), that was discussed nicely with a schematic diagram.

Mr. Mon Prakash Upadhyay, HoD EE/EC said that, "Such program for students would enlighten their knowledge on the topic”.

Chancellor Dr. Umesh Gautam and Dean Engineering Prof. R.K. Shukla described this guest lecture as enlightening for the students. Mr. Debanjan Roy, Mr. Arun Gangwar, Mr. Pankaj Tripathi, Dr. Ankur Rai, Ms. Manjari Sharma, Dr. Sourabh Pathak attended the session along with students of B. Tech. & Diploma (EE/ECE).

Department will keep organizing such webinars from time to time to inspire our students, because the youth of today are the warriors of the future."

The event ended with honorarium to the guest.
